Deadline Countdown 2012

You. That's right, you, the one losing your mind and going crazy because you just know you won't finish your application in time (you know who I'm talking to).

Calm down.

Take a deep breath.

And read this:

Good news, everyone. Because deadline technically falls on a long weekend here at MSMS we are going to accept materials electronically (email, fax, upload, etc.) through MONDAY, Feb. 20. This gives many of you the whole weekend to polish your stuff or simply get finished with what you've got. Please note, this extension only applies to ELECTRONIC submission (email, fax, website upload, etc.). Material sent via regular mail must still be postmarked by Feb. 17, 2012. If you have questions or concerns please call or email the admissions office.

Feel better? Good. Now get back to work.

Application materials are pouring in, but we are missing significant portions of many of your applications. Specifically, lots of you have not sent in your signed copy of the Applicant Information Page. WE MUST HAVE YOU AND YOUR PARENT'S PHYSICAL SIGNATURE ON THIS PAGE IF YOU WANT YOUR APPLICATION TO BE REVIEWED! FILLING OUT THE ELECTRONIC ONE AND SENDING IT WITHOUT A PHYSICAL SIGNATURE IS NOT SUFFICIENT.

Don't let yourself miss out on your chance for MSMS because of a simple piece of paperwork.

Good luck,

Mr. Wade

Class of 2014, February 17th is right around the corner! In an effort to keep you motivated and to help those of you still sitting on the fence about applying to MSMS I will be updating this blog - a.k.a. The Countdown To Application Deadline 2012 - at least once a day from now until the application deadline. Check back here every day for more video interviews with current MSMS students who share their stories - both good and bad - about applying to MSMS. This blog also contains links helpful links and answers to the questions I am hearing most often. Good luck and I hope I get to see you all in person real, real soon.

Get those applications finished!

Mr. Wade

Questions I am Starting to Hear All The Time

1. When is the deadline for application to the class of 2014?

February 17, 2012 - as in about two weeks from today.

2. If I decide not to apply this year, can I apply next year?

No. MSMS is a two year program (11th and 12th grade). Only current high school sophomores may apply to the school. If you are set to graduate in 2014 and you miss the application deadline you will have missed your chance at MSMS.

3. Where/How do I send in my work sample/essays/Transcripts/ACT Scores/Application Stuff?

You can send your information in any manner you wish, as long as it gets to our office by the Feb. 17 deadline. Listed here is detailed information regarding the most popular methods of application submission.

-Fax Number: 662-329-8570
When you fax in information it is a good idea to write "Attention Admissions" or "Attention Ms. Horton" on anything you send to our office. Also, please make sure your name is on everything you send to us.

-Email Addresses: apply@msms.k12.ms.us and admissions@msms.k12.ms.us
These two email addresses are set aside specifically for students to send in application materials. Mr. Rick checks these accounts constantly throughout the day, and he will send you an email verifying he got your information should you send it to either of these accounts. If you are having trouble with those addresses for whatever reason please send your info to wleonard@msms.k12.ms.us

 -Physical Address:       MSMS Admissions
                                    1100 College Street, MUW-1627
                                    Columbus, MS 39701

You can also physically mail any part of the application you wish to send that way. Remember, application material which is mailed in must be postmarked by the Feb. 17 deadline. If you have any questions or concerns please call us at 1-800-553-6459 or email us at rsmith@msms.k12.ms.us or wleonard@msms.k12.ms.us or shorton@msms.k12.ms.us

4. I haven't taken the ACT yet. Can I take the February ACT and submit that?

According to the rules, you must have an ACT score BEFORE THE DEADLINE!!! This means that you must have a valid ACT score before Feb. 17, 2012. Having signed up for the Feb. 11 ACT date is not sufficient because you will not have your scores back by the 17th. However, if you already have an ACT score and you would like to take the Feb. 11 ACT in order to increase your score then we will accept your higher score when you receive it.

If you don't have an ACT score yet or you were planning on taking the Feb. 11 test because you misunderstood the rules, don't panic. There is still a chance you will be able to take the ACT by taking what is called a residual. Many community colleges offer regular residual ACT tests each month and many are used to allowing our potential students to sit in on their residual ACT so a score may be acquired. While our admissions office will happily help you find a residual site should you need one, in the end it is entirely up to you to secure a location and follow through with the process.

For help and more information concerning residual ACT contact Sheila Horton at 1-800-553-6459 or at shorton@msms.k12.ms.us*

*We are aware of the typo on page 7 of the application indicating ACT scores are not due until the 21st of February. This is a typo, the deadline for all application materials remains Feb. 17. However, due to the potential confusion this error might have caused, we will accept ACT scores up until Feb. 21. If you are relying upon getting scores from the Feb. 11 regular ACT date back by Feb. 21 please know it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY THIS WILL HAPPEN. ACT generally takes at least three weeks to generate scores to students. If you are lacking an ACT score, MSMS Admissions highly recommends taking a residual ACT before the application deadline.
