For over twenty years, The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science has been a unique and special place for academically talented students from the state of Mississippi. As the name implies, MSMS is dedicated to the academic teaching of mathematics, science and technology, but we also place some emphasis on the arts and humanities. Our graduates are spread throughout the world doing amazing things in a multitude of careers. We are very appreciative to the taxpayers of Mississippi for providing such an opportunity to its young people.

MSMS was created by legislative enactment on July 1, 1987 as only the fourth school of its type in the United States. MSMS is a public, residential school for eleventh and twelfth grade high school students. Our curriculum is challenging and taught on a college and college preparatory level.

Our alumni consistently tell me that they love their MSMS teachers, that they learned more than they ever dreamed they could, and that they looked to their teachers as second moms and dads. They also tell me that they learned so much in the residence halls living and working with students who were as driven to succeed as they. They tell me that the students they met at MSMS are not only life long friends, but are like brothers and sisters.

MSMS is a place characterized by a spirit of humanity, kindness, compassion, respect and support for others. We are a people who believe in our ability to produce necessary and desired results. We are a people that can find the balance between the collective good and the good of the individual. We enjoy traditions passed from previous generations. We celebrate our diversity and know the importance of respecting differences in race, culture, ethnicity, interests, thought, socioeconomic background and beliefs.

The entire MSMS community constantly strives to fulfill the ideals of the school: Scholarship, Creativity, Community, and Service. MSMS alumni continue to fulfill the ideals of the school as evidenced by the sharing of their time, talents and financial resources to benefit the needs of the school and our current students.

If you are an academically talented student looking for a challenging environment, a parent, an educator, a business person, or are just interested in quality academic instruction, please visit and see for yourself.
